Ministry: Mobile connection price growth capped by inflation

MOSCOW, Mar 29 (PRIME) -- Russia’s Digital Development Ministry together with the Federal Antimonopoly Service will ensure that the mobile connection prices do not overshoot inflation, the ministry said on Tuesday in a statement.

“We remind that Russia’s connection services are one of the cheapest in the world. Russia is among the top three countries in the world by affordability of mobile Internet and among the leaders by broadband Internet penetration via fiber optic networks,” the ministry said.

The authority earlier recommended the operators distribute network loading evenly given  equipment shortages due to sanctions that could cause difficulties for the companies in maintaining the rate of network development.

The ministry recommended the operators limit the offer of unlimited tariffs, “which provoked an imbalance in traffic consumption, irregularity in the loading on the networks” and revise the fill-in of tariffs if needed.

The authority said that the operators have accumulated a critical mass of archive tariffs, including with unlimited data, which creates an unjustifiably heavy load on the spots where subscribers have access to wire network connection. “The recommendations aim at mending this imbalance in the use of mobile connection networks,” the ministry said.
